The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa began as an excuse for two newspaper columnists to spend a week riding from the Missouri River to the Mississippi River. In 2023, RAGBRAI celebrates its 50th ride with a route stretching from Sioux City, through Ames and Des Moines and ending in Davenport.
