NOTE: In 1930s in Poland, a most popular melodramatic story - a "tear-squeezer" (a Polish term) - about a rich landowner Ordinate Michorowski and his lover, Stefania Rudecka - a village teacher who was pretty and "poor but noble" - was based on Helena Mniszkówna's bestselling in million copies novel "Trędowata" (A Leprous Girl) which had its sequel "Ordinate Michorowski". Both parts were filmed and made a tremendous success. The best Polish film and theatre actors: Elżbieta Barszczewska (acting Stefania) and Franciszek Brodniewicz (Michorowski) made in "Trędowata" a memorable couple and they lifted up these characters from level of a third rate literature ("novels for cooks and servants" - another Polish term) into artistic performances. In "Ordinate Michorowski" however, Franciszek Brodniewicz's partner was Tamara Wiszniewska who was a new sensation in Polish cinema briefly before 1939, and quickly made herself a name as talented and beautiful follower of the great tradition of Polish interwar acting. Unfortunately, in September 1939 she leaves Poland and her name disappears from Polish film history forever. Brodniewicz, who during the war did not collaborate with nazi-administered theatre stages in Warsaw, died on heart attack in front of his house during the German bombardment of his street , in first days of the Warsaw Uprising of August 1944.
