DOUBLE VOWELS | Arabic Language
Hello everyone, Marhaban and Thank You for watching Edupedia World Videos.
The double Vowels by Hiba Abou Al Niaj.
Before we learn the double vowels, Lets remember the short vowels and their sound. So they are Fat’hah with A sound. Dammah with O sound. Kasrah with E sound and Sukoon has no sound.
Now let us see what are the double vowels are.
Double vowels, which is known in Arabic as Tanwiin.
You take a main vowel and then place the same vowel right next to it.
Thus creating two vowels or a double vowel. The sound that the double vowel makes, Double Fat'hah, Tanwiin with Fat’hah creates
the an sound. Double Dammah, Tanwiin with Dammah creates the On sound. And double Kasrah, Tanwiin with Kasrah makes the En sound.
So for double Dammah, you can write two Dammah next to each other or you can use this symbol instead. Remember one Dammah has O sound and double Dammah has On sound.
Example: Arnabu with one Dammah.
To make double Dammah it becomes Arnabun.
For double Kasrah, I’ll give you an example Arnabi with one Kasrah, to make it with double Kasrah, It becomes Arnabin.
For double Fat'hah, you have to add two Fat'hah and ah as well. Except for the word that ends with Ta Marboota, Closed Ta or with Hamza.
In this case, you have to add just two Fat’hahs. I’ll give you an example, the Word Arnaba ends with Ba, so once you add double Fat’hah to it you have to add A and double Fat’hah, and it becomes Arnaban.
The word Madrasatah ends with Ta Marboota.
This is called Ta Marboota. So no need to add A, just you need to add double Fat’hah on top of it. The word Sabboorata, ends with Ta Marboota, so here to add double Fat’hah you need to add just the
double Fat’hah, with two Fat’hah without A, and it becomes Sabbooratan. The word Samaa’ ends with Hamzah, so to make it with double Fat’hah, it becomes Sama’an. Just you need to add double Fat’hah with no A. So again if the word ends with Ta Marboota or Hamza, you add double Fat’hah, two Fat’hah at the top, otherwise if the word doesn't end with Tamarboota, or Hamzah you have to add A and double Fat'hah.
