Chancellor Rishi Sunak says he would not have made Boris Johnson's Jimmy Savile slur towards Keir Starmer.
The Prime Minister’s head of policy has resigned citing the his “inappropriate and partisan” attack on Mr Starmer.
Munira Mirza, 43, has quit her senior Downing Street role after Mr Johnson failed to apologise for the “scurrilous accusation”, according to the Spectator.
Her departure will deliver a major blow to Mr Johnson, coming after three Tory MPs publicly submitted letters of no confidence in his leadership on Wednesday.
