The biggest advantage of the Turbo-Disc filter over conventional sand filters is the low water use during the backflush cycle. For a 2,000 ton chiller plant a sand filter will use 2,628,000 gallons per year while the Turbo-Disc will only use 85,400 gallons per year.
The Automatic Turbo-Disc Filter is a fully automatic, self-cleaning disc filter system. Available in multiple micron sizes, the lightweight three-dimensional polypropylene disc media uses a minimal amount of backwash water (approximately 10 gallons of water per pod) relative to other automatic filters on the market.
The filters come complete with or without a pump - all packaged on a stainless-steel skid assembly. Filter systems are designed with a modular approach; multiple filter housings (pods) are manifolded together with stainless steel inlet/outlet manifolds. An onboard controller monitors the differential pressure across the filter, triggering an automatic backwash when dirty. Filter lid enclosures have a stainless steel quick-release band clamp assembly, enabling easy access to the disc cartridge for maintenance purposes.

The problem:
• Cooling towers continuously scrub contaminants from the air
• Particulate can fouls heat exchangers, condenser tubes and other equipment

• Solid contaminants will increase fouling factor
• An increase of 0.001 in fouling factor increases energy consumption by 10%
• Cooling tower life is typically determined by the life of the basin
• A layer of solid contaminants in the basin prevents penetration of corrosion inhibitors and other chemicals
• A solid contaminant layer is an excellent “breeding ground” for bacteria and algae
• Particulates can clog heat exchangers and spray nozzles, degrading flow distribution
• Clogged nozzles require maintenance and possible shutdown
