Meet orphan Kumbura, an orphan that was lovingly accepted into the Jabulani herd 11 years ago.
Please consider fostering Kumbura or any of the Jabulani elephants, to help with our ongoing elephant care costs during the shutdown of tourism due to COVID-19. PLUS if you foster an elephant before 31 May 2020, you could win a three-night stay at Jabulani for two people sharing!

Kumbura is our elephant reminder to love and persevere, that we can get through the hard times by giving life all we have and supporting one another. It was teamwork, love and compassion that got her to where she is today – a happy member of the Jabulani herd.
Meaning “To remember”, Kumbura was born in 2009, making her about 11 years old! Her name is a tribute to Adine’s late father, Johan Roode who passed away in the same month that Kumbura arrived. 🌟🐘
In 2009, Kumbura was seen wandering on a private game reserve, next to the Limpopo River on the border of Botswana and South Africa, alone, with no sight of her mother or herd. She was alone for three months before she was rescued.
Despite what Kumbura experienced, she is a strong survivor and the Jabulani herd have given her the strength and support she has needed to thrive once again.
Physical Traits:
Kumbura is a delicate and slender elephant with fewer wrinkles than many of the other elephants in the herd. She is a similar age to Pisa, but she looks quite a bit older. Her tusks are average in size.
Personality:
She was quite a nervous, sensitive and delicate little calf initially, with much self-doubt, but she loved the attention from the herd, and spent a lot of time with Tokwe and Pisa, often following them around.
Today, she has become a stronger and truly caring soul who plays an important role in the social hierarchy of the herd. She is always protective over the other orphan accepted by the herd, Timisa, offering her companionship wherever she goes. She even makes sure to watch over Timisa during their swims in the dam, keeping her away from the deeper parts and nudging her towards the shallows.
Foster sweet little Kumbura! 💕🐘
