STORYLINE:
French bakery Utopie, in Paris' 11th arrondissement, was crowned the winner of the 2024 edition of a competition that each year chooses the best traditional baguette in the capital.
Xavier Netry, baker at the Utopie bakery, located at 20 rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, won the prestigious title of best baguette in Paris becoming the new supplier to the Élysée Palace for the coming year.
"I have been a baker for twenty five years. And I was saying to myself it would be nice to have a recognition and today it happened so I am very happy about it," Netry said.
Every year for the past 31 years, the Syndicat des Boulangers-Pâtissiers du Grand Paris has brought together all the artisan bakers in the capital to determine the best baguette in the city.
To award the winning baker, the baguettes are judged according to five precise criteria: baking, taste, odour, airy structure, and appearance.
The products must measure between 50 and 55 cm long, weigh between 250 and 270 grams, and have a salt content of 16.8 grams per kilo of flour.
