Robert Crisp always had an entrepreneurial drive and wanted to be his own boss. In 1985, he decided to make his dream a reality and opened up his own screen printing business in Marietta, Georgia.
Robert started off his apparel business like every other startup has: working long hours and weekends trying to find some success. As the years went by and he started seeing growth, he hired employees to help him out and expanded his apparel business by offering more services – one of which was embroidery.
When he first started offering embroidery, he would outsource the embroidery work. Embroidery is the most profitable decorated apparel method, but after outsourcing the embroidery for some time, he started to become frustrated with the process of outsourcing the embroidery. After looking at what he had paid out to get the embroidery done, dealing with long turnaround times, and not being able to be in control of the quality and the process of the embroidery, he decided to bring the embroidery in-house.
And so the research process for a suitable embroidery machine company began. After reading reviews and hearing how similar companies were having great success with the guidance, support and training that Ricoma offers, he decided to go with Ricoma. Robert went with two Ricoma embroidery machines, the MT-1502 and CHT-1506, over one Barudan or Tajima. He called the decision a “no-brainer” after comparing the ROI of each machine.
When he received his machines, Robert was amazed by how well the Ricoma technician set up and trained his employees on how to operate them. Although intimidated by the machine at first, his employees gained the confidence and knowledge to run the machines in only three days thanks to Ricoma’s hands-on training.
Bringing embroidery in-house with Ricoma proved to be a very positive move for Robert. He started seeing great results by being able to offer his clients quick turnaround times, top quality embroidery and new services such as puff embroidery. With Ricoma embroidery machines, embroidering hats has been a huge success after being able to offer 3D puff embroidery, which he couldn't offer before since it was too costly to outsource. That alone gave Spectra a huge advantage over its competition.
Very soon after his purchase, positive feedback from his clients started pouring in and he began getting more work in from customers. Spectra was finally a one-stop shop for marketing and branding services.
Now, Robert can cut costs while bringing in more profit by eliminating outsourcing. Thanks to Ricoma’s devotion to quality, affordability and reliability, Robert's investment has been a very positive experience. As his company continues to expand, he sees himself investing in more Ricoma embroidery machines to help with his continued success.
