SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Police arrested a 13 and 14-year-old believed to be involved with a group of juveniles that have stolen multiple Kia/Hyundai vehicles and Ring Doorbell Cameras in Spokane County.
Police say the group of juveniles had a two-day crime spree, which included four vehicle thefts, 10 Ring Camera thefts, throwing a Ring Camera though the front window of a house, breaking out a vehicle window and multiple prowling incidents.
Police say one of the teens was found hiding in the closet of his mother's house, and the other was taken into custody at this middle school. They were both arrested on September 7.
Since these two teens were arrested, Spokane Police say vehicle thefts in the city of Spokane and Spokane County have dropped dramatically.
SPD's new Kia/Hyundai Auto Theft Task Force has identified four teens responsible for these vehicle thefts, and they have been charged with a total of 26 felonies, 10 gross misdemeanors, and 1 misdemeanor crime, including robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of another's ID, possession of burglary tools, and other crimes.
Police say these teens present destructive and senseless behaviors, causing thousands of dollars in repairs, affecting insurance rates, and causing a huge disruption to the community.
If your Ring or other surveillance camera has been stolen, please report it to Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
If you own a Kia/Hyundai without a push-to-start button, it is recommended you contact your dealership to see if there is a free dealer update for your vehicle. Police say some victims have placed air tags in their cars, which have been helpful for police to track them down.
