About Mount Cook Village from Pelennor Fields
This is a quintessential kiwi ride with some of the best cycling New Zealand has to offer. It takes you along the location of Pelennor Fields from Lord of the Rings and through the UNESCO heritage protected Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park to Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. The ride begins with a section where you follow a beautiful hydro channel full of glacier blue water from Lake Pukaki and Lake Ohau. This is a nice flat section with beautiful views. In the first part of this section you ride along a segment of the 310 km long Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail and past the location of Pelennor Fields from Lord of the Rings. As you leave the hydro channel, you ride on the main road for a few kilometers before you enter the 'Mount Cook Road'. Located in a Unesco world heritage area, the Mount Cook Road offers one of the most stunning scenery in New Zealand. On your right, Lake Pukaki, a 15-kilometer long turquoise-colored glacier lake. The road follows the lake with small climbs and descents. In the background, you have the mountains of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. After 46 kilometers you leave the lake and ride a beautiful 'open road' which has a beautiful view of Mount Cook. Further up the road, the view of Mount Cook is replaced by a view of the stunning Mueller Glacier. The ride ends in front of Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre at the Hermitage Hotel.

Adding music to the ride:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...
