New Toyota MR2 2025 - let's talk about the long-anticipated comeback of the Toyota MR2. Rumors have been circulating for what feels like an eternity, and the excitement has been building. Most recently, there were reports suggesting that Toyota might be developing a mid-engine micro sports car powered by a 1.0-liter Suzuki engine. While this sounds intriguing and perhaps a rival to the Daihatsu Copen, today, we've got some new information that could give new life to the rumors surrounding a proper follow-up for the MR2.
According to a "reliable source" mentioned in a report from Best Car, the upcoming MR2 will be powered exclusively by an internal combustion engine, not a hybrid as previously suggested for the smaller mid-engine vehicle. Toyota's 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine, known for making 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque in the GR Corolla, would be more than enough to give this small, mid-engine sports car a thrilling performance. Unlike the hatchbacks, it is suggested that this engine would exclusively power the MR2's rear wheels, promising an exciting driving experience.
