Yves Klein is known for using a particular shade of blue, known as International Klein Blue or IKB, which he created with the help of chemists. He also created paintings with models as “living paintbrushes.”
“Untitled Anthropometry (ANT 100)” (1960), featuring an alignment of five figures, is notable because Klein used his own body to create three of the prints, and the body of his future wife, the artist Rotraut Ueker, to create the other two. Representing a double portrait of the artist and his wife, the work bears comparison to images of couples throughout art history, from Adam and Eve to the marriage portraits of Rembrandt and Rubens.
CREATE: Get a little messy and create a portrait with your loved ones in blue!
(Bobbin’s paw print created with movie magic, but we recommend a nontoxic water-based paint for any critters!)
