How to sew a hole in a tanned leather raccoon pelt using deer sinew. This is a large raccoon that I hunted & tanned myself. I put a couple of small unwanted holes in it during the fleshing process, so I needed to sew them closed. I used sinew from the leg tendon of a deer that I bow hunted for my sewing thread. Real sinew can be processed down into the thickness that you want for your thread & is very strong. I give captions for each step throughout the sewing process. Sewing a leather animal hide with its fur still on can be a little challenging & I am not an expert at this however, the steps on how to sew a hole are actually pretty simple. You could also use an awl & pre punch your holes before sewing. Then you can wet the end of your sinew & let it dry hard to use itself as it’s own needle. Regardless, the knotted end of the sinew needs to be dry or else it will come untied. I just used a regular sewing needle to make it quicker & easier.
