You may not realise that cafes use bigger baskets to fit more coffee inside, whereas a coffee pod is restricted to a 5g capsule.
Many people use the lungo over the short shot thinking they’re getting more value, but this is actually ruining your coffee.
Never use the lungo shot. It took me years to learn that what I was getting out of this was a cup of mostly bitter, dirty coffee water.
All you need is a 30-40ml extraction to get all the essential aromas and flavours out of your coffee pod. Doing this leaves you with a beautiful colour and crema.
Nespresso have developed specific pods for the lungo shot, but it is still restricted to a 5g coffee pod and loses its colour by the end of the shot.
Since sharing this information, I’ve had a lot of feedback saying that their coffee is much more enjoyable now that they’ve tried the long shot.
Another mistake people make is thinking that higher intensities relates to the caffeine content, when in fact it relates to the intensity of the flavours in our coffee pods.
All of our coffee pods have similar caffeine content. There may be slightly more as the intensities go up, but not enough to be noticeable.
You should experiment with our coffee pods to find what suits you best. We recommend the higher intensities for coffees mixed with milk, and lower intensities for espressos and long blacks.
