In late 2021, Ford pulled the curtains back on the fifth-generation Ranger, followed by the Ranger Raptor's grand entrance in early 2022. However, these introductions targeted markets outside the US. Now, Ford has finally lifted the veil on the 2024 Ranger and Ranger Raptor, which will be available to North American customers.
Visually, the new pickup closely resembles its international counterpart, both in the interior and exterior. However, the North American version distinguishes itself with unique features under the hood. The Ranger Raptor is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, similar to the international variant, but with a considerable power upgrade. The powertrain delivers an impressive 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes exclusively with Ford's 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which is standard across the entire new Ranger lineup.
The base model of the 2024 Ranger comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine, producing 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, Ford offers a larger, optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, shared with the F-150 and Bronco, generating 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
The Raptor is equipped with a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system, featuring an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case and locking differentials on both the front and rear. Sporting 17-inch wheels with 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain KO3 tires, the Raptor's flared fenders also include functional vents. Ford presents the option of 17-inch beadlock wheels, complete with available bead locks for those extreme low tire pressure scenarios.
The Raptor's diverse drive modes - Normal, Tow/Haul, Sport, Slippery, Off-Road, Rock Crawl, and Baja - adjust the truck's 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve Internal Bypass shock performance. These modes also influence the engine, transmission, ABS calibration, traction control, steering, and throttle response. They even modify the instrument cluster and touchscreen display. Additionally, the truck features an active valve exhaust system with Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Baja settings.
Ford offers the Ranger in four trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, and Raptor. The XL trim boasts a black grille, grille bar, and grille surround. Meanwhile, the XLT and Lariat trims stand out with gray accents on the grille bar and surround, and Ford provides an optional chrome upgrade for these two trims. The XL and XLT come standard with 17-inch wheels, while the Lariat rides on 18-inch wheels.
Orders for the 2024 Ranger and Ranger Raptor will be accepted later this month. The entry-level model is priced at $34,160 (including the $1,595 destination charge), while the Raptor is available for $56,960. The 2023 Ranger XL from the previous generation starts at $28,895, with a $1,495 destination charge. Both trucks are set to go on sale in late summer, but the Ranger equipped with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 won't be available until late fall.
