UCI’s School of Humanities (SOH) is home to the Armenian Studies Program, led by Houri Berberian, Ph.D. Professor Berberian has articulated a bold vision for the program to develop a multi-disciplinary, academic Center for Diasporan Armenian Studies – a focus which will make it distinctive in the country. Her vision builds on the School’s significant strengths in global cultures and historical studies. It will provide growth in the number of Armenian Studies faculty, provide student support, and expand public outreach.
Our first priority is to secure an endowed fund for Western Armenian Language Instruction, so that Western Armenian, a UNESCO-designated endangered language, can be offered to students and the community in perpetuity. This is the first step in our long-term plan to develop a Center for Diasporan Armenian Studies.
