Hi, John with etrailer. If you're looking to do more with your RAV4 then check this out. We have our etrailer class three receiver hitch and it's on our 2023 Toyota RAV4. I will tell you right off the bat that this is my choice for this RAV4. I just like the matte black finish. It matches the plastic finish that's on the back bumper back here.
Now this is a two-inch by two-inch receiver. This is the industry standard for a class three hitch. This is also one of the most popular sizes. You're gonna have the most options when it comes to trailers, cargo racks, bicycle racks. It has a hidden cross tube design so all you're really seeing from the back of the Toyota here is just the receiver part.
I like it. It looks factory on this and it's not just this big hunk of iron hanging off the back of your bumper here. So let's go ahead and look at some of the features on it. It does have a wire loop for your chain hangers and it's gonna accept either the standard S hook with plenty of room or you can do the heavier duty clevis type and not worry about running outta room or hitting your bumper. This is going to accept a 5/8 inch pin and clip.
Now this is not included, so if you're new to towing you do need one of these. And we also have these available on etrailer and locking type if that's what you're looking for. If you're looking at accessories like cargo carriers and bike racks. Now typically those come with a locking pin and clip already included, so you won't have to worry about that. Let's talk about some capacities for this class three receiver hitch.
We have 600 pounds of tongue weight rating on this. It's gonna be the force pushing down on the hitch. That's plenty of weight capacity for even a two-bike or a four-bike rack or a big cargo carrier even some of your bigger trailers. And speaking of trailers, it has a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Now that's gonna be the weight of your trailer with any cargo that you put on it. Now you'll check with your Toyota's manual to make sure that you can haul that much weight. So let's look at some measurements of this hitch. From the ground up to the inside collar we're looking at 11-3/8. And from the center of the pin hole to the edge of the bumper right here we're looking at just about five inches or so. Now these measurements are important if you're choosing accessories such as a bike rack or cargo carrier or even a ball mount you may have to have one that comes out and comes up to fit your trailer or if any folding accessories, you don't want them to fold up and impact your bumper. So final thoughts on the etrailer hitch. Like I said, it is my pick as far as hitches go for the RAV4, not just for the weight and functionality of it, but also the looks. I think it looks good on the car. It's also gonna give you, again, the most options when it comes to picking accessories like cargo carriers and bike racks and even trailer towing. So as far as installation goes, we installed this one earlier and it goes up pretty easy. Now we've got some tight spots on the passenger side. You might need a ratchet wrench would make your life easier. And then there's another special tool called a dog bone. So you can get it torque to the specs in the manual, but if you wanna see how we did it, stick around. Okay, so let's get this install started. Now, first thing we're gonna do, it's not stated in the instruction manual, but when we we're trying to test fit this hitch earlier it was just kinda tight to get it in between the exhaust with these tips. And we don't wanna scratch stuff up. This exhaust is really easy to lower down and that's what we're gonna do right now. I've got a cam buckle tie down strap right here and I just hung it from the coil springs on either side and that's gonna help us control the exhaust as we lower it. Now we're gonna go ahead and I've got a pry bar here. I'm gonna loosen this exhaust right here first. You can just take a pry bar, go in, give it a twist and push. And if you've got some silicone spray that'll help it come off easy too. On either frame rail, the passenger and the driver's side we've got two 12 millimeter bolts. We just go ahead and zip these off. (drill buzzing) (drill buzzing) There, and that should give us enough room. Now we're over here on the driver's side. You're gonna have two stickers on either side of the car here. These are gonna be covering the
