Mozambique Mayhem: Over 150 Killed | Firstpost Africa

Tensions have again risen in Mozambique, where protests are ongoing over the disputed October 9 election results. In the latest, at least 21 people, including two police officers, have been killed in the past 24 hours. The government has said that a total of 236 acts of serious violence have been reported across the country. Fresh protests and violence erupted across Mozambique after the Constitutional Council confirmed the ruling Frelimo Party’s victory in the disputed elections in October. With the latest killings, the death toll in the post-poll violence in Mozambique has crossed 150. Shops, banks, supermarkets and petrol stations have all been ransacked in several parts of the country, while residents are staying home to avoid getting caught up in the unrest. But despite this, the opposition leader Venancio Mondlane, has called for protests and demonstrations to continue despite the killings. Is Mozambique heading towards a greater political crisis?
