Join us as McLane takes a bull moose in the High Uintas of Utah. A lot of work goes into all moose hunts, but especially those that take place in the backcountry. We packed in to our camp which ended up being about 7.5 miles from the trailhead. We searched high and low for big bulls and finally found a shooter. McLane took full advantage of the opportunity he was given and made his shots count. His bull died at 11,000 feet and just below the summit line. Moose hunting is NOT for the faint of heart or the physically unprepared.
McLane shot his bull with a Kimber Mountain Ascent Rifle chambered in .280 Ackley Improved. He was shooting the 162 gr ELDX. His first shot hit the bull square in the front shoulder - breaking it completely and entering in the bull’s heart as well. He only took 10 steps after being hit. Moments later, McLane put him down for the count with a follow up shot again in the vitals. This hunt took place in one of the many large basins of the North Slope of the Uinta mountains. It truly was an amazing adventure.
Congratulations McLane!
Enjoy.
