Changes in treatment suggestions from the American Academy of Pediatrics suggest that ear infections and pain should instead be monitored for 48-72 hours without prescription as long as children are comfortable and do not have a fever . Pain management may include ibuprofen, Tylenol and ear numbing drops. Overall, fewer antibiotic prescriptions are given unless they are needed.
