Stephen Yardley stars as Dr Thanet, a GP in Fulchester who prescribed the pill to Mrs Phelps 15-year-old daughter without telling her mother. Mrs Phelps then organised a petition stating that Dr Thanet was an "evil influence" on the town. The doctor is suing Mrs Phelps for libel.
Stephen Yardley, along with Dennis Chinnery (Mr Phelps) appeared in the Doctor Who adventure "Genesis of the Daleks". Stephen also appeared in the 2nd series of "Widows" and "Howard's Way". The Demon Headmaster himself, played by Terrence Hardiman, appears as counsel for the defendant. CJ from The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, i.e. actor John Baron, appears again as the irascible Judge Mitchenor. Margaret John, Mrs Phelps, also appeared in Doctor Who in the classic (but wiped) adventure "Fury from the Deep" as well as "Gavin & Stacey". Vicky Williams, here playing Linda Phelps, appeared in many series, but may be best known for her appearance with Joan Hickson in Miss Marple's "A Murder is Announced".
