So we have discovered that Abbey is in gestalt language processor. Means she acquired language differently and is very episodic memory heavy. This means memories pop in her head and take her out of the present moment. She absolutely loves the show ‘This is Us’ because the structure of that show went to flashbacks a lot, and she could relate to it. I believe the more she understands how her own mind works -the more communication skills she’ll have so she can be understood. We never try to change the memory in that it exists as it does, but just give it the language that she’s feeling in the moment and let go of memories that do not serve her anymore. Like jealousy of typical kids in six grade - sometimes it’s like it’s happening right now even though that was decades ago. So the more Abbey can identify memories and add feeling words, instead of memories, the more she will be able to be understood in future.
