Patrick O'Brian's Napoleonic/Nautical adventures were hugely popular, and so this serial adaptation of one of his early Aubrey & Maturin books must have seemed like a surefire hit. Whether it was or wasn't, it wasn't followed by a further series... though Aubrey & Maturin did return to Radio 4 about a decade later...
