“Leaving”, the bilingual version of “Time to Leave”, is a new attempt of adding transnational and cross-cultural elements to China’s national traditional music. The effort was led by China’s top pipa player Zhao Cong and a British production team along with overseas artists. This is Zhao Cong's first production of a song in both Chinese and English languages. The traditional Chinese music together with the western singing grants the song a rich cultural connotation of the East as well as an immersive romanticism of the West.
The music was composed by Zhao Cong, who also wrote the Chinese lyrics. Meanwhile, the English lyrics are co-written by musicians from both China and the U.K. The leading singers are the soprano Mary-Jess Leaverland, the theme song singer of the hit British TV series Downton Abbey, and Wang Bo, tenor of the English National Opera.
Published by the British Cam Rivers Music Record Company, the song was recorded in the U.K., supervised by Simon Kiln, a famous music producer, recorder, and Grammy Award winner.
