To date, there is no universal definition for Comprehensive Approach and the concept is interpreted in different ways, depending on the context; varying from a simple understanding of a need to promote synergies between civil and military actors to a larger understanding of the need for coordination and joint efforts
between all actors in crisis areas including the diplomatic representation, humanitarian and development agencies, as well as trade and economic instruments. Although, there is no single definition, Comprehensive Approach is understood as bringing together all the different capacities and capabilities available
across the military and civilian world of peace support and crisis management, in order to do things together to achieve the same positive goal. But is the peace community able to join their efforts to make meaningful contributions to contemporary crisis management environments? What can be done to better
operationalize the comprehensive approach in peace support and peace building activities? This video gathers together some of the characteristics related to the discussion on Comprehensive approach in contemporary peace operation.
