Things you need to know before visiting Cancun
Cancún, a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea, is known for its beaches, numerous resorts and nightlife. It’s composed of 2 distinct areas: the more traditional downtown area, El Centro, and Zona Hotelera, a long, beachfront strip of high-rise hotels, nightclubs, shops and restaurants. Cancun is also a famed destination for students during universities’ spring break period.
Cancún and Mexico is not as dangerous as most people think. You just have to ensure that you take the precautions needed, just like on any holiday anywhere.
Cancún has some great beaches and culture. I do not recommend to go here during Springbreak unless you wanna party all the time. There is a lot of beautiful nature around Cancún and the whole coast and there is actually a lot of culture. There are beautiful ruins, water caves, and beaches.
Cancun can be a bit more expensive than the rest of Mexico although it’s still cheaper than the United States for example. I always recommend to have some cash on you although most places accept cards. If you plan to travel between the different cities and to visit different places while in Cancun I do recommend that you rent a car. It is the cheapest and the most comfortable way to get around. There are a lot of car rentals and that way you are not dependent on the tours. It also allows you to have the freedom to stop on any of the beautiful beaches you can find on the coast.
I highly recommend Cancun, Quintana Roo and Yucatan, it is beautiful and has a lot to offer to everyone! It is not limited to Springbreakers but accesible to families, couples and/or friends.
