I started this experiment about 8 months ago as an exercise in incorporating waste products into a resting garden bed. The idea was use up a large quantity of coffee grounds, cardboard, shredded paper and even some old cotton sheets and carpet underlay which were otherwise destined for landfill. The benefits have included reduced maintenance & no need to spray to keep weeds down, and a long term increase in soil fertility with the help of naturally occurring composting worms :)
