Dr. Mahalingam Govindaraj, a Senior Scientist and Senior Crop Development Specialist with the CGIAR’s HarvestPlus program, is receiving the 2022 Norman A. Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application from the World Food Prize Foundation. The award recognizes his seminal work while at ICRISAT to develop varieties of iron-biofortified pearl millet, which are proven to address iron deficiency in young children and women when eaten regularly. Iron deficiency is a leading cause of anemia in low- and middle-income countries.
