KNEECAP - Love Making. An exclusive live performance for Vevo.
Colonialism, religious war, and social strife plague the modern history of the Éire island. But you don’t need to read Patrick Radden Keefe’s ‘Say Nothing’ to appreciate KNEECAP’s serrated political edge. You just need to know about Gaeilge grime. Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí - the rad lads who founded the Belfast crew back around 2018 - have labeled their brand of hip-hop as such. Honoring the Gaelic language, especially by speaking it, is a matter of pride for many Irish. On debut project ‘3cag,’ the boys wield the old tongue like a Celtic longsword. “Foc mí, ní fhaca mé na bastairdí” (or, “fuck me, I didn’t see those bastards), kicks off “CEARTA,” their aggressive announcement onto the Irish hip-hop scene, in which they rail against the English police force and brag about sneaking drugs by. Years have refined the craft, and ‘Fine Art’ is a culmination of their mission. The title asserts that their radical message isn’t just righteous, it’s fine art. The album’s various genres makes for a raucous global party sound. Just need your green-white-orange balaclava for admission. Only one way to describe this “Love Making” performance from our session: it’s the craic.
