A docu-fiction about statue parks and museums of communism. Citations from Alain Resnais and Chris Marker's "Les statues meurent aussi" (1953) invoke a link between the colonialism that transformed African statues into museum objects and what happened in Eastern Europe after 1989.
The story emerges through 3 perspectives: an authoritative critique of the current dismissals of communism as kitsch or terror, a subjective travel diary highlighting how natives have become tourists of their own history, and a direct cinema reportage told in the language of tourists themselves. By juxtaposing multiple voices and styles, "Red Tours" seeks to question the politics of documentary.
