Chelsea & Tony Northrup review the new Sony a7R V, a 61-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera. It has A LOT in common with its high-resolution predecessor, the Sony a7R IV. They have exactly the same sensor, so all aspects of image quality (such as dynamic range, rolling shutter, high ISO performance) are the same. However, PixelShift is MUCH more useful now, and you can use the Sony a7RV to create 240-megapixel pictures even when leaves, people or animals move through the frame!
Other improvements include 4k/60 video and 8k/24 video (both with a slight crop). Finally, an a7R camera has GREAT video autofocus!
The biggest improvement is the introduction of Sony's AI autofocus system, which detects a wide variety of subjects including human eyes, animal eyes, bird eyes, cars, planes, and trains. It works AMAZING. We test all those autofocus methods pretty intensely.
