While every albergue is unique, and a few have something other than the metal bunks, a common feature of the up / down bed structure is that the person with the bottom bunk has an opportunity to bump their head on the bottom of the upper bunk.
That hurts. I know.
There is no single solution to this, and it varies greatly by pilgrim height, it is important enough for me to check how much clearance my poor cranium has as part of my check-in procedure.
