First of all, a shout out to our favorite YouTube guy, Jeff at Hit the Road Madeira, who prepared us for our first in-person visit to the Mercado de Natal with this video.

Well, except for one unexpected occurrence, which comes at the end of this video.
During our brief visit, we met a dog named Slim Shady, wolfed down some fresh Bolo de Caco, drank cherry liqueur out of a chocolate cup, cavorted with a bespectacled Santa Claus and tried some excellent mulled cider from Prazeres, Calheta.
After years of watching people walk past these food stalls on Avenida Arriaga, it was great to experience it in person for the first time. And not in down parkas, shivering.
We will try to make another video of the area next to Avenida do Mar before the current holiday season ends.
