The skeleton of the human body is made up of bones.
that's provides us support so we can move
Beside this, bones provide protection to many vital organs in our body.
Four types of cells play an important role in the formation and maintenance of our bones.
1. Osteoblasts
Osteoblasts helps in the formation of new bone tissues
2. Osteoclast
Osteoclasts helps in the removal of unwanted bone tissues
3. Chondroblast and Fibroblast
These cells helps in the production of cartilage and collagen protein
4. Osteocytes
These cells provide signals to other cells to maintain bone maintenance
whenever any bone breaks due to injury or pressure, extremes pain occurs
Our bones have ability that they can heal themselves
Process of bone healing occurs in five stages
Stage 1 : Hematoma Formation
when fracture occurs in any bone, blood starts leaking due to rupturing of blood vessels.
This mechanism is called HEMTOMA
Stage 2 : Inflammation
after that white blood cells accumulate at fracture site
and starts eating dead cells and germs
so infection can not spread
During this there will be swelling, hotness and pain in the fractured region called inflammation
Stage 3 : Soft Callus Formation
in this stage bone forming cells starts to repair fracture site
During this, Firstly new blood vessels are made
along with this chondroblast and fibroblast cells make cartilage and collagen proteins at fracture site
Due to which soft mass appears at fracture site called soft callus
During this, if there is a stress on the bone than it took too long to heal the bone
that's why hard bandages are folded with fractured bone
so there will be no stress on bone and bone will heal faster
Stage 4 : Hard Callus Formation
Approximately after three weeks of fracture, soft callus converts into hard callus
Osteoblast cells plays an important role to convert soft callus into hard callus
These cells collects calcium and phosphate into soft callus
Due to which hardness comes in bone
Stage 5 : Remodeling
Remodeling stage starts after 2 to 3 months of fracture
in remodeling stage, osteoclast cells breaks extra mass of bones.
due to which the shape of the bone returns to the shape of the bone before the fracture
in some cases , remodeling stage take years
little bit signs of broken bone remains left after this stage
time needed to heal the bone depends on the type of bone got fractured,
patient have any bone disease? like osteoporosis in which bones become weak
Diet of patient
and bandages, casts and rods are used or not to heal bone faster?
