Enjoy this six breaths per minute breathing exercise.
Resonance breathing is a technique that can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Here’s how you can practice it:
Breathe in 5 seconds,
Breathe out 5 seconds.
The total breath cycle is 10 seconds, which means you take 6 breaths every minute.
Breathing at 6 breaths per minute has many benefits including higher HRV, lower blood pressure, and lower stress.
Throughout the day we breathe much faster, between 12-20 breaths per minute.
Breathe in and out through your nose. Or try exhaling through your mouth like you're blowing out a candle.
Focus on breathing easily and comfortably, rather than deeply
If it feels too slow or too fast, try my app which makes it easy to customize the timings to what feels best to you. Your "resonance breathing rate" may not be exactly 6 breaths per minute. People tend to have their own resonant breathing rate that works best for them.
What is HRV Resonance?
HRV is a physiological phenomenon where the time between heartbeats varies. It’s a measure of the heart’s ability to respond to different demands, including emotional stress, physical exercise, and even our breathing patterns.
Resonance, in the context of HRV, refers to a state where our heart rate and breathing rate are synchronized. When you breathe in, your heart rate goes up. When you breathe out, your heart rate goes down. If this pattern of your heart rate going up and down matches the rhythm of your breathing in and out, then your heart rate and breathing are synchronized. This state of synchronization or “resonance” is believed to optimize body functions and improve overall health.
When HRV resonance is achieved, it’s often associated with a state of balance and harmony within the body’s physiological systems. This state is characterized by improved cognitive performance, emotional regulation, and stress management.
HRV resonance is unique to each individual and can be influenced by age, fitness level, and overall health.
