In South Africa, Heritage Day is known as Braai Day. The values, customs, culture, and artifacts passed down from past generations make up a person's distinctive, inherited sense of familial identity.
As we watch and experience the elements that make our family special, we absorb a sense of our history throughout our lives. South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation because of the country's diversity of cultural, racial, and ethnic groups.
In South Africa, there are around 63 ethnic groups.
And there's one thing we have in common. BRAAI.

Although braai is a South African phrase for "barbeque," there is a difference.
The main difference between a braai and a BBQ must be the fire. A braai just isn't considered a braai if cooked on a gas grill.



In this vlog I Braai-ed lamb chops, eggs and braai-broodtjies with my folks for breakfast. My mother also prepared a truly traditional dish known as "pap."

For lunch I braai-ed boerewors. We mostly eat boerewors just like that, but you can also make a hotdog out of it and that’s exactly what I did. We call it a boere worse roll.

We also cooked pork belly in my father's new favorite braai gadget for dinner, a "varkie," which translates to "piggy" because it resembles one.

Of course, a braai isn't complete without a drink, so for the lunch braai, I sipped Castle milk stout, my recently discovered favorite beer. I paired the pork belly with a Niel Joubert cabernet sauvignon for supper. Because red wine and meat is life!
