-- Lake Wanaka Walk with Mou Waho Island Cruise --
Starting from the village of Wanaka in Central Otago our water taxi ride with Wanaka Watertaxi takes us 15km up Lake Wanaka. Along the way we are taking in stunning views of the Harris and Buchanan Mountains. Along the way we take time to stop and learn about the fascinating history and geology of the area by our skipper Brent.
After disembarking on Mou Waho Island we have about 1.5+ hours to explore this special place. A 20 to 30 minute hike up the hill brings you to the hidden lake, created by glacial action thousands of years ago when large glaciers filled the valley.
After the hike a swim in the bracing waters of Lake Wanaka and of course you can swim in the lake on top of the island! Keen walkers carry on for another 10 minutes to the top of the island (Tyrwhitt Peak) with opening views to reveal both lakes and a panorama of jagged peaks.
