My thoughts on the news stories this week about the 65 year anniversary of the invention of the Black Box Recorder, used in commercial airlines worldwide since the 1960s.
Growing up, we used to attend the Abbotsford Airshow annually with a media pass thanks to my dad Stan Blackwood who worked at BCTV for all of my growing up years.
We would get up in the darkness of the morning and make the 1 hour trip out to Abbotsford to be at the front of the pre entry line.
We would stake out the best spot for the car and set up for the day with a Bbq, and comfortable seating as well as a radio link to the tower so that all around us could hear the action.
These childhood memories still have me looking to the skies when an aircraft flies over, and a moment of silence for the most worthy of planes.
Fascinating to hear the origins of the safety feature we call the Black Box Recorder.
