Living with cystic fibrosis (CF) is a daily challenge for those diagnosed with the disease. CF is a genetic disorder that affects the respiratory and digestive systems, causing thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. It also affects the pancreas, making it difficult to digest food and absorb nutrients. Symptoms of CF include persistent coughing, wheezing, frequent lung infections, poor weight gain, and abdominal pain. Daily life with CF requires a rigorous treatment routine, including physical therapy, medication, and a specialized diet. CF patients must also avoid infections and stay vigilant about their health. Despite advances in treatment, CF is still a progressive disease and life expectancy is limited. However, with proper care and management, people with CF can lead fulfilling lives and experience improved quality of life. Support from loved ones, a positive outlook, and access to specialized care can make a significant impact for those living with cystic fibrosis.
