The United Nations mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA, will now step up its activities to protect citizens there. This is following the announcement by France on Monday that it will pull out its troops from the country after completing its operation in the C.A.R. A recent report by Human Rights Watch claims that MINUSCA failed to halt the October 12 attack by Seleka rebels that killed at least 37 civilians. In an address on Wednesday, UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson, who is on a visit to the C.A.R., reiterated the mission's commitment to the protection of citizens.
