The "Tyrolienne turque" (improbable genre), dedicated to Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes' niece, parody Mozart's "Turkish March" on a waltz rhythm("Très turc").
The "Danse maigre" (skinny dance) is dedicated to Ricardo Viñes' nephew. This piece is a pastiche of the styles of Ravel, Debussy and even Satie himself. Hence the words "À la manière de ces messieurs" (In the style of these gentlemen).
"Españaña" is dedicated to the daughter of Claude Debussy, nicknamed "Chouchou", for which Satie had a special affection. Again, the composer parodies the fashion of Spanish-style works by French composers (Debussy, Chabrier, Bizet). We notice the humorous indications that account for this musical mode phenomenon ("Puerta Maillot", "Plaza Clichy", "Rue de Madrid").
