There are many ways to delete files and folders in Windows. Sometimes you received an Access Denied message while trying to delete a file or folder. Make sure that you have administrator rights on your computer. If you already have logged in as an administrator but not able to delete a file or folder, then follow these steps.

1. You may not be able to delete a file, because it may be open with a program, so Close the program or App first.
2. At the bottom of your Desktop, right-click on the taskbar, and from the list click on the Task Manager to open it.
3. Click on the More details down arrow.
4. In the Task Manager window, click on the Users tab.
5. Click on the username arrow, and you will find the list of some running programs.
6. Select any program that you are not using at present, and right-click on it.
7. From the Drop-down list, click on the End task to close the selected program.
8. Sometimes, Restarting your computer can solve the problem of Access is Denied.
9. Let’s try one more method by using Command Prompt.
10. Click on the search bar at the bottom left on the taskbar.
11. Type CMD and from the search result, right-click on the Command Prompt App.
12. Click on the Run as administrator, if you are prompted with an alert box, then click on the Yes button.
13. Now, we will find the location of the folder that we want to delete. Right-click on the folder and click on Properties.
14. You can see the location of this folder is showing as C:\Users\Desktop, select the location path, and right-click on it.
15. Click on the Copy from the list.
16. Go back to Command Prompt window.
17. Before doing anything, we will take ownership of the folder. To do so, type this command takeown/f“and paste the copied folder location path by pressing Control+V on your keyboard. After the folder location path write a \, and then type new folder and give again then press /r.
18. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
19. With this command, we have taken ownership of this folder.
20. To delete this folder, type rmdir /s /q “ and paste the folder location path write \ and type new folder”. Before pressing Enter key please make sure that your folder location path is correct because after pressing the Enter key you will not get any notification for the confirmation to delete the folder and also not be able to get back the deleted folder.
21. Now, press the Enter key, ee we have successfully deleted the Folder that was giving Error of Access is Denied.
