Here is a quick walk around of my remote control lawnmower. This mower started out as a cheap Craftsman push mower. I have probably used it eight years now before this rc build and it still runs great.
I have seen a lot of large rc mowers with tracks online that are for steeper properties and I really want to build one. Before I spend a lot of money on building a big machine, I wanted to prove to myself that I could build a cheap one that actually runs with a remote and cuts grass.
This mower does run and cut grass but needs some modifications. Here are a few;
-The electric motors are 24 volt motors and I am only running them with 12 volts so it is much slower than it should be. I do plan on running it with 24 volts but before I spent the money on an extra battery, I wanted to make sure this thing would actually work so I just took one battery that I already had to test it out.
-The frame I built around the mower allows the deck height to be adjustable, but I did not put enough height adjustment into the design. The frame needs to be higher off the deck, so the deck can raise higher off of the grass. I have it adjusted all the way up and the deck will still drag in thicker grass, and because the wheels are slick they will just spin.
-The wheels on this mower are the wheels that came with the power chair that I got the electric motors from. They are old and worn out and slick. They spin constantly, because there’s not enough grip to keep the mower moving. this mower definitely needs some new wheels / tires with better tread.
