Title: Understanding changes in kelp forests around the world and around Appledore
Summary: Kelps are what make the world temperate subtidal go 'round. And yet, multiple human influences have impacted the earth's oceans and kelp forests over the past century. Dr. Byrnes will discuss how species are changing around the world and draw comparisons to kelp forests in the Gulf of Maine, and more specifically, Appledore Island. The talk will highlight the roles of climate, fishing, disease, and more - and might even have some citizen science thrown in for good measure.
