A fully interactive simulation of the pump system on a Fire and Emergency New Zealand pumping appliance (fire truck) built in Adobe captivate.
The simulation gives the learner control over all of the controls on the pump and all of the significant variables that affect pump operation. This isn't a scripted interaction, the learner can adjust everything.
Feedback for a user engaged in self-paced learning comes from assessing the pump settings and the calculated output against standard operating procedures and the criteria of a scenario.
The simulation uses a simplified mathematical model of the pump, executed in javascript, to drive the gauges and sounds effects the user sees.
The pump panel was built in 3D modelling software to give the learner a realistic point-of-view.
