I've had this excellent Time Base Corrector, the Datavideo TBC-1000, since around 2000, I think. Once in a while, the signal drops to near nothing, leaving a ghostly dim image that only resolves with a power off-on. Some of the fine folks at videohelp.com made some helpful comments that led me to open the lid and have a look around to see whether any components were bad enough to see with the naked eye. Or finger.
