York City were desperate to get back to winning ways as dropped points meant the Minstermen’s chance of automatic promotion were diminishing.
This 2-0 win over Lincoln City sent a wave of relief through Bootham Crescent as York won their first League fixture since the end of November.
After the midweek capitulation at Wrexham, City boss John Ward made a couple of changes to the side. Steve Bushell came in for ever-present midfielder Gary Swann, and Darren Tilley was selected with John Borthwick missing.
Defender Steve Tutill nearly presented the visitors with an absolute gift, smacking the ball against his own crossbar with Dean Kiely beaten, but his defensive partner Paul Stancliffe made the difference at the other end, hammering home a loose ball on 21 minutes.
In the second half City scored again. A defensive comedy of errors from the Lincoln back line saw the ball break free to Tony Canham, who slipped the ball into the empty net and York finally had three points to get back on track.
York City: Kiely, McMillan, Hall, Pepper, Stancliffe, Tutill, McCarthy, Tilley (Barratt), Barnes, Bushell, Canham (Blackstone).
