Prasar Bharati Central Archives series of Akashvani Sangeet -
Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu - It was under his brother, an exceptional violinist that Dwaram had his early training. Dwaram matured early as a musician of rare calibre. He went on to win great praise and many laurels for his exquisite handling of the violin.
The Mysore Darbar in 1946 decorated him with the title "SangeethaRatnakara". He was conferred the honorary doctorate of "Kalaprapurna" in 1950. He received the President’s award for Carnatic instrumental music in 1953 and was awarded the title of "Padma Shri" in 1957. He was well known for his deft handling of even complex Ragas. Though a traditionalist at heart who adhered to the orthodox Carnatic style, he was receptive to fresh ideas.
This concert of Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu, recorded in the early 1960s, is from the Archives of All India Radio. He is accompanied on the Mridangam by Vellore Ramabhadran and on the Ghatam by R.S. Krishnamurthy Rao. Dwaram is supported on the violin by his daughter Dwaram Mangatayaru. The hour long concert begins with the famous Dikshitar composition, "Vathapiganapatim" in Hamsadhwani (Adi Taal).
This is followed by a Reetigoula composition by Subbraya Sastry ("Janani NinnuVina"). Dwaram concludes this concert with three Thyagaraja compositions in Raga Bahudari, Ranjani and Devagandhari.
