This tetradrachm was minted at Salamis circa 306-300 BC, during the peak of the Diadochi wars. Around this time, the Antigonids lost a great battle near Ipsus against a united coalition of the diadochoi Seleucus, Lysimachus and Cassander. This defeat proved devastating for the Antigonid Empire and they were subsequently forced to abandon their imperial ambitions in Asia Minor.
