Firefighters were dressed in their best for the annual Citizens Appreciate Public Safety, or CAPS, Awards held at Meson Sabika on October 23.
CAPS is a Naperville community group that aims to recognize public safety officials that have gone above and beyond for the city.
“It’s amazing, the firefighters when their acknowledged and they get their award are so humble and their like, ‘oh I don’t deserve it, it was a team,’ and their just so honored by getting it. They’re thrilled,” said John Norman, CAPS member. “It’s a great event for them to bring their family out to and I think most importantly it’s a great event for the public. Because we don’t always hear about it, we don’t always see what they do, but it’s a great way for them to see how the public appreciates them and what they do for us.”
Firefighters were also honored with life saving awards, awards of valor and unit performance awards.
Citizens are encouraged to nominate outstanding police personnel for their upcoming award ceremony in the spring at NapervilleCAPS.com
